What to see

The Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer stands on the bluff above the beach, with 9,386 headstones, a memorial and a visitor centre explaining the landings. Paths lead down to the sand. On the beach at Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, the steel sculpture Les Braves marks the centre of the landing area.

The Overlord Museum near the cemetery displays vehicles and equipment from the Normandy campaign. At the western end, Vierville-sur-Mer was one of the exits fought for on D-Day, and Pointe du Hoc is a few minutes further west.

Visiting

Omaha Beach is about 25 minutes from Bayeux by car. Public transport is limited, so most visitors drive or join a tour. Allow at least half a day for the cemetery and the beach.
